One size does not fit all is the belief of underwear maker Wacoal Europe. Its A-K cup brands include Fantasie, Freya, Elomi, b.tempt'd and Goddess. Each has its own personality and position in the market. The company believes that every woman is different in terms of her size, shape, taste and how she feels.
Wacoal Europe’s brands, which include swimwear in a range of cup sizes, are stocked by more than 5,000 retailers, including national and independent stores as well as online, in more than 30 countries.
It employs 465 people at its head office in Kettering, Northamptonshire. Wacoal Europe also has production centres and sales offices across the world.
The company believes in working with respect for each other, being flexible, and recruiting, developing and retaining the best people. Wacoal Europe’s partners and suppliers are also key to its business and the company works closely with them.
It aims to be an organisation where its people feel valued, engaged and empowered. The company develops people to realise their potential and who are proud to be part of Team Wacoal.
Improving communication at every level has been on the company's agenda, after listening to staff feedback. Now, through its Bravo platform, staff have the chance to have their say. Daily catch-up meetings also take place with remote teams, and weekly departmental updates are published.
In a move to improve sustainability, the company uses recycled yarns in several lingerie and swim ranges each season.
My organisation encourages charitable activities
Wacoal supports local charitable initiatives and women's shelters. Redundant products are sent to Africa to support community projects that provide underwear to women who cannot afford it. It donates to organisations such as The Cowshed, which helps people in times of crisis, such as women fleeing domestic abuse.
The experience I gain from this job is valuable for my future
The company offers apprenticeships to school-leavers and to increase the skill and knowledge levels of existing staff. It is increasing its investment in employee training and their learning requirements are identified from appraisals.
I believe I can make a valuable contribution to the success of this organisation
The company values are "passion, team and work-life balance". Staff are inspired to be passionate about what Wacoal does and believe in its products. They are encouraged to work as a team with a common goal and the culture discourages doing long days or answering emails outside working hours.
