Two childhood friends, Sam Galsworthy and Fairfax Hall, decided there would be no half-measures when they set up Sipsmith. Their mission to bring top-quality London gin back to the city that gave it its name began in 2009. Along with drinks aficionado Jared Brown, they set up London's first traditional copper distillery since 1820.
Sipsmith has come a long way since then, expanding globally, but the company ethos hasn't changed: it makes gin, not compromises.
The same goes for how staff at the distillery work together. The company wants its people to have the greatest experience they can at work, without compromises.
Sipsmith staff do things together, so whatever an employee's role, they are involved with every part of the company, from delivering quality brand experiences to hosting visitors from around the world at their world-class distillery bar.
Sipsmith wants everyone to experience and contribute to everything the company does. Sipsmith staff are a family of individuals — they work together, but everyone is empowered to use their superpowers to help the business and brand expand.
Part of the company's mission is to support a culture that celebrates success and promotes learning. Sipsmith encourages the team to think for themselves and develop their own careers.
Anyone is welcome to put forward a case for individual growth and learning. If it can be justified to support business objectives, Sipsmith is pleased to support them, financially.
I feel proud to work for this organisation
Sipsmith hosts deep dive workshops led by HR and their managers on their specific team results and with the leadership team to better understand the results and develop an action plan for what improvements could be implemented. The actions taken enabled each team to manage their own engagement improvement plan to their specific needs.
My team is fun to work with
The organisation has a committee dedicated to creating fun for teams to energise and engage them. It organises a monthly drinks event at its own bar on site which is themed differently depending on events, as well as organising an annual team sports day and team awards such as "the values champion".
My organisation encourages charitable activities
Everyone in the Sipsmith team sets an annual Sustainability KPI for themselves working with their manager to deliver tangible improvements on their commitment to craft a better future. This means Sipsmith’s teams are actively rewarded through its pay and bonus model for meeting its environmental goals.
