Working from home was not an option for many employees of Severn Angels Healthcare during the pandemic. They were on the front line, helping to care for vulnerable people.
Worcestershire-based Severn Angels has more than 300 workers on its books – registered nurses, healthcare assistants and support workers. The agency supports more than 20 care homes and NHS hospitals nationwide, and can serve a broad range of clients including homeless shelters and prison health facilities.
The company has chosen the three C's for its core values: compassionate, committed, competent. It treats its nurses and healthcare workers with dignity and respect, knowing this will encourage their commitment and enhance the company's standing in the community.
After the pandemic started, the manager scheduled face-to-face team meetings on Zoom every week, rather than the usual once a month. Workers were reminded that the agency is always there for them.
In return, staff are adept at spotting where improvements can be made and providing feedback for the manager to discuss with clients.
I have confidence in the leadership skills of my manager
Management performance is assessed on a six-monthly basis. The key performance indicators include: rate of productivity, response rate to feedback, relationships with external interested parties, working environment of the organisation, planning and risk management, and amount of profit.
I feel a strong sense of family in my team
Every team member was asked to contribute to the weekly Zoom meetings and the company took their comments into account when planning or implementing policies. This helped to ensure wellbeing was monitored so action could be taken if anyone was struggling to cope with work or the challenges of Covid-19.
This organisation is keen to help people from disadvantaged backgrounds
The company supports Severn Angels Housing & Support, a charity that provides accommodation and support for homeless people to enable them to be more independent. It focuses particularly on women in the West Midlands and Worcestershire. Staff have organised fundraising raffles and donated clothes.
