Procurement and supply chain consultancy Proxima was set up more than 25 years ago by Matthew Eatough, who wanted to cut the cost of supplies. He worked for his family shoemaking company and realised the impact supplier costs were making on the business.
His mission paved the way for Proxima's credo that procurement is much more than just "purchasing". Today, the company has offices across Britain and America and counts the Home Office, John Lewis, Morrisons, easyJet and Transport for London among its customers.
Proxima is an inclusive place to work and its open-door policy makes collaborating with people from all levels of the business easy. New recruits are given a career manager and a "buddy". The career manager helps to guide and support staff, as well as aid their development.
Staff are encouraged to expand their skills and learning, whether or not the training is work-related — Proxima has an X-Fund which invests in its employees’ passions. Staff are also supported to gain professional qualifications.
The company's flexible-working policy allows staff to work at times that suit their personal lives. They can also take up to four days a year volunteering leave, as a chance to give back to their community.
Mental health and wellbeing champions are always on hand to offer advice and support. The company says Team spirit and support is woven into the fabric of the business.
