Communication lines are crystal clear at Ice Comms, a telecoms services provider that truly listens to its staff. When concerns over maintaining social distancing were raised, the company introduced a system of coloured wrist bands to signal individual levels of Covid anxiety and keep communication to a minimum for those most nervous.
Founded by three close friends in 2008, Ice Comms has five UK offices with a head office based in Crewe, Cheshire. Those living with vulnerable individuals have been encouraged to continue working from home. Its philosophy is to enjoy working in a family run atmosphere whilst delivering first class, industry beating customer service.
When its workforce voiced financial concerns, Ice Comms signed up to the Living Wage Scheme and offered everyone a loyalty card providing discounted food and shopping. When team members expressed their struggles to buy work appropriate clothing, Ice Comms developed free, branded clothing for its staff.
The business prioritises a healthy work life balance. There is no expectation of after hours working, and no more than two per cent of employees work outside of the core office hours of 9am to 5:15pm. Regular rewards, including prize holidays, days off and spa trips, motivate and thank deserving employees.
I love working for this organisation
Annual awards and ‘Spin to Win' vouchers thank brilliant staff with holidays, electrical gadgets, days off and lie ins. Ice Comms' entire operations team were given a £500 voucher at Christmas in recognition of the especially challenging time they have had. Senior managers sit amongst their teams to improve communication.
This job is good for my own personal growth
Online training courses are readily available and those taking part are rewarded with £50. There is regular customer service and compliance training, and performance is monitored on a daily basis with live data. All senior managers sit amongst their teams so friendly advice is never too far.
This organisation has a strong social conscience
Staff taking part in The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, a 24-mile, 5200ft climb across the Yorkshire Dales National Park, raised more than £20,000 for a local hospice. Ice Comms also offsets its carbon emissions with a tree planting scheme, which employees will be able to partake in.
