Teamwork makes the dream work at social landlord, Family Housing Association (FHA), where staff pitched in together to make sure the organisation was able to provide vital care and support to vulnerable tenants during the pandemic. FHA was inundated with volunteers from across the organisation who were willing to be trained up to help support key workers.
Based in Swansea, FHA was established in 1975 to meet the housing needs of families and older and more vulnerable people with a mission to create strong, vibrant and resilient communities where people can live active, fulfilling, lives living independently and safely. Today it manages more than 2,800 affordable homes and provide a range of services, including the development of new homes, for people and communities across Swansea, Carmarthenshire, Neath and Port Talbot, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire.
A registered society for the benefit of the community, it is passionate about improving the quality of people's lives including the people it houses and supports and the 250 employees who do the work. Trust, honesty, innovation, fairness, respect and accountability are the principles which guide the not-for-profit organisation in everything it does.
During the pandemic FHA showed trust in staff by abandoning time recording and core hours and moving to a flexible work when you can policy. Once the Coronavirus crisis has passed FHA will offer staff the opportunity to work from home for part of their week.

FHA has always invested significantly in training and development even in challenging periods and last year it introduced a Leading Change Programme, open to all while 30 staff took up the opportunity to increase their skills and qualifications through apprenticeship programmes.
I am happy with the balance between my work and home life
Teams have had coffee mornings, quizzes and opportunities to just talk about how they are feeling with support from Time to Change Champions and they have been encouraged to take a walk during their breaks to appreciate nature with WhatsApp groups featuring different activities and beautiful views from across Wales.
