Founded in 2000, Excalibur Communications provide IT and business communications solutions to more than 4,000 customers - ranging from SME's to Premiership Football Clubs.
The organisation holds monthly and quarterly business updates which are predominantly attended in person and all employees are invited. This forum is used to update the team on company activity, to reinforce messages that relate to the strategy and culture of the organisation, and report on progress against this.
In addition to this there are regular team meetings and one-to-one discussions and each employee has personal goals set which will feature goals that connect to the overall strategy.
In September each year there is a company "kick-off" where the Senior Leadership Teams position the business strategy and this is the content that then features in the messaging for the remainder of the year. Board and SLT meetings are also focused around this topics.
Company values are built into everything Excalibur Communications does. It doesn't just focus on the what it does, but the way it does it. The values are considered in every conversation it has and the decisions it makes, as well as being embedded into its performance enhancement process.
The organisation recognises and rewards those that demonstrate its values on a quarterly basis via its Excellence Award and it also has annual awards which are largely based on values. Who and how it recognises those that demonstrate the values is led by the leadership team.
I feel a strong sense of family in my team
The organisation runs a process: "SKIPs". The principle is that employees skip their line manager and provide feedback on the business to the next level up. This process was undertaken by the board of directors and every member of the organisation met with a director where they were asked for feedback related to its vision.
The experience I gain from this job is valuable for my future
The organisation runs a Living Leader programme. It also provides bespoke training tailored to individuals, such as professional finance qualifications and technical training. One leader at Excalibur Communications is on an external leadership programme and the People Director is training in executive coaching.
This organisation has a strong social conscience
Excalibur Communications has a charity committee called "Excalibears" who drive its charity fundraising, donations, and volunteering activity. The organisation recently participated in some grounds maintenance at a local hedgehog sanctuary. The organisation also matches any contributions made via the payroll on a monthly basis.
