Netball has been thrust into the limelight since England's elite team, the 'Vitality Roses', made history by winning gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Now England Netball is "leading a movement on and beyond the court" with passionate people "dedicated to making netball the best it can be."
The not-for-profit business and national governing body for England's biggest female team sport is responsible for the strategic approach to netball nationwide, from grassroots to international championships. Its programmes entice new women and girls into the game and encourage those who may have last scored in high school back onto the court.
Based in Loughborough, England Netball's culture "makes it a special place to work." And wellbeing is a priority.
Staff can work flexibly, splitting their time between home and the office, and every one-to-one meeting starts with a wellbeing check-in score to open up conversations. Managers actively encourage their teams to take leave regularly, and employees can take time for themselves, even at short notice, with a dedicated wellbeing day every year.
Team members can take advantage of hypnotherapy, reiki, head massages and other therapies through the organisation's health care cash plan, and everyone has access to a wellness hub with online workouts, meditation, relaxation and sleep resources. And the Employee Assistance Programme offers peace-of-mind access to a 24/7 GP and counselling support.
My team is fun to work with
Everyone gets two volunteering days a year, working together as a team or individually, for a local cause close to their hearts. And there's always something to do socially, whether its staff netball sessions to build social connections or lunchtime celebrations for sporting events or festivals such as Eid.
I believe I can make a valuable contribution to the success of this organisation
Regular learning sessions and opportunities to share successes, including a post-probation period celebration event, connect new recruits with their fellow new starters. There's also a new employee onboarding hub and a checklist managers can customise to ensure they have the right information and can meet the right people to set them up for success.
This job is good for my own personal growth
Mentoring schemes are big at England Netball. Employees can develop their leadership skills as mentors or mentees for underrepresented groups across the sporting sector. And a second scheme pairs mentors with mentees to support specific development goals to help them take the next step in their careers.
