Boxxe's story took off in 2019 when successful technology entrepreneur Phil Doye took over a 30-year-old software security company and updated it into a digital transformation service. It now has six service hubs to create flexible IT infrastructure, collaborative global workspaces and data clarity for the private and public sectors.
At its cultural centre is ‘Making Technology Human', which in practice means putting people first and understanding that the success of every digital transformation depends on the people who deliver it.
Sustainability is at the core of what it does and boxxe is aiming for B Corp certification, a network of businesses that balances purpose and profit, required to consider the impact of all decisions on their employees, customers, suppliers, the wider community and the environment.
It prides itself on being a meritocracy, promoting and hiring accordingly, and an open forum in which staff are encouraged to ask questions and have a right to know where the company is heading. Developing its people is important to the company. Training is delivered to managers through a ‘boxxe Accelerate' programme of psychometric testing, one-to-one coaching and group activities that is aimed at teaching them more about what motivates and drives them personally, how to interact with others in a productive way and form an effective team. That is to be opened up to applicants from any level in the business.

The senior leadership team communicates with staff through company-wide meetings every quarter, which involve Q&A sessions where staff can choose to be anonymous. They spoke one-to-one to every employee at the start of the pandemic and set up weekly management calls to ensure the flow of information through the business.
I believe I can make a valuable contribution to the success of this organisation
When senior managers noticed that some staff were struggling with home working and isolation during the lockdowns, they set up a virtual social calendar which had events, challenges and drop-in sessions. On the agenda were coffee catch-ups, photo competitions, virtual bingo and virtual escape room.
My team is fun to work with
Every Monday, on all social media channels, a ‘Meet The Team' campaign showcases one employee, who explains what their role is and shares some of their home life. The aim is to show that behind ‘Making Technology Human' is a human being.
