Barnsley Hospice have been providing the people of South Yorkshire with specialist palliative and end-of-life care since 1985. Originally created by a team of volunteers, the hospice has grown from a Day Hospice into a 10-bedded inpatient unit, capable of providing 24/7 care to people with life-limiting illnesses.
Its services also include support and wellbeing, counselling and bereavement aid for families, physiotherapy, outpatient appointments, and complementary therapy. Barnsley Hospice has over 100 staff spread across 2 sites, ensuring that patients can receive the care and treatment that they need.
Almost 30 years after the hospice first opened its doors, it has received a rating of “Outstanding” by regulatory body, Care Quality Commission, reflecting the amazing work that the hospice and all of its team do to better the lives of their patients.
Barnsley Hospice also supports its employees through schemes including access to flexible working hours and by regularly inviting staff to make suggestions on what support measures would be most useful to them.
In September 2022, the hospice held its first all staff conference, allowing employees to voice their opinions, to share in the wider vision of the organisation, and to reinforce the idea that by all of the teams working together, the hospice would succeed in its goals of providing an exemplary service to their patients.
