THE TECH-SAVVY STAFF of digital security firm Avecto, which was founded in 2008, relish being part of a growing start-up. With a burgeoning workforce of 92, the Cheadle-based computer software firm — which focuses on endpoint technology that helps clients to defend their networks by protecting the devices attached to them — is relocating to offices near Manchester airport this year. The company is going places, say staff, who helped design, develop and deliver its Defendpoint software, which it sells to businesses worldwide. They are excited to be coming along for the ride — this measure earning a 94% positive score bettered by just nine small companies — and they are proud to work here (93%, ranking 20th). Careers begin with a week's induction, which the firm follows up with tailored development plans, as well as invitations to industry events and courses. The experience gained is good for the future, employees say (90%). Corporate social responsibility is also part of the Avecto package. Recent initiatives include gardening for a hospice and teaching coding to children, parents and teachers at local schools. Green measures such as eco-friendly kettles and movement-sensitive lighting were introduced at the request of the workforce.
