‘The freedom to grow, be themselves and take ownership of their futures.’ Management consultancy and digital transformation firm Alchemmy recognises the potential in its people – its ‘biggest asset.’
The London-based company sees the ‘Alchemmy Difference’ as the antidote to the impersonal, big consultancy approach. It prefers to ‘get alongside clients, get stuck in and help them deliver great results.’
Its team of around 90 employees, including analysts, strategists and consultants, supports clients in the defence, security, retail, consumer and transport sectors with everything from growth strategies to intelligent automation.
Transparency is key at Alchemmy, and everyone has the chance to input on major decisions. They’re explained fully and are up for discussion at company-wide forums. The company has little hierarchy, and the senior leadership team encourages all staff to suggest ideas or provide feedback directly.
Employees are free to choose where they work, with Fridays the day when everyone gets together in person. There’s a more extensive company update every other Friday with project spotlights. And many staff choose to stay in the office and socialise.
There are also regular ‘Knowledge is Power’ lunch and learn sessions, bringing people together on a particular topic and providing a forum for questions.
Alchemmists benefit from bonuses linked to company performance, with those at manager level and above also receiving a proportion related to individual performance. And the company has made its temporary cost-of-living support payments permanent, meaning employees get a monthly boost.
I am happy with the balance between my work and home life
The ‘Alchemmy Sport’ initiative encourages colleagues to participate in group running, football and squash sessions, with plans to add more activities. There are also ‘comfortable conversation’ sessions where mental health issues can be discussed in a group setting. And mental health first aiders are always on hand for one-to-one chats.
This job is good for my own personal growth
Employees now benefit from greater transparency around the competencies they need to progress through the ‘Grades Reimagined’ scheme. It splits everyone into sub-levels within their job grade, showing what they need to do to move up the grades. The initiative has involved benchmarking with recruitment agencies and across the marketplace.
This organisation has a strong social conscience
‘Alchemmy Gives’ has been set up to help local causes. Alchemmists donated coats to the ‘WrapUp London’ campaign and ran a charity raffle raising more than £1,600 for Breast Cancer Now. And there’s a half-day company-wide volunteering session every year, with the last one supporting the upkeep of a community garden.
