“United in spirit” is the motto at Warner’s Distillery, the gin-maker based on a family farm in Northamptonshire, where the founders and staff share a vision to be “the most nature-positive drinks business in the world”.
The company was founded in 2012 by Tina and Tom Warner with the aim of making drinks in harmony with nature. That ethos led to the launch of Nature Marque, a unique initiative that supports Warner’s mission to educate and enable people to do their bit for nature by transforming spaces.
The scheme was created with the support of the Wildlife Trust and has kicked off with an accreditation that will be awarded to pubs that make their outdoor areas wildlife friendly. Actions that can be taken include planting wildflowers or pollen-rich flowers, or installing bird boxes, bug hotels and hedgehog highways.
The company’s 100 per cent-natural spirits are made from farm-grown ingredients. Their production focuses on conserving the countryside, protecting natural habitats and supporting biodiversity.
As well as caring about nature, Warner’s looks after its staff, and its top strategic pillar is “our people come first”. When it discovered that not everyone was taking their hourly lunch break, it instituted the “golden hour”, when calls and meetings are restricted and people are encouraged to stop work and step outside.
It has a work communication principle of 7am to 7pm and the team is encouraged to help at the farm in working hours, such as during the elderflower harvest or planting crops.

Warner’s introduced “change agents” to ensure that actions based on feedback from staff were implemented. One team member from every area of the business was enlisted and progress was shared at monthly town-hall meetings. Another new initiative is giving paid half-days off to staff to give something back to the community.
This job is good for my own personal growth
During the past 18 months, Warner’s has invested in supporting personal growth through promoting self-awareness in preferred ways of working and discovering any potential blockers by using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. It has also run team days with a guest speaker.
This organisation has a strong social conscience
The company focuses on positive biodiversity impacts in line with its "nature positive" mission. Initiatives include Operation Honeybee, a campaign launched with its Honeybee gin that aims to educate and engage stakeholders to join the company in finding ways of alleviating some of the pressures facing pollinators.
