Supporting local communities and charities is very important to UK Power Networks and their employees. Every January the organisation launches their “community matters” strategy, outlining the monthly charities they will support along with the planned fundraising activity. Following feedback from employees the company now support local groups alongside national charities. In the first 10 months of 2021 employees raised over £11,000 for charity. Whilst this figure is lower than pre-pandemic years, charitable contributions through the Give As You Earn salary sacrifice scheme have more than quadrupled versus 2019 to over £200k.
Employees have been utilising their Donate A Day allowance with over 181 employee days spent supporting the community, a 75% increase on the 2020 year-end figure. So far in 2021, UK Power Networks has contributed £21,488 to local charities/communities through the above initiatives.
UK Power Networks (UKPN) is the country’s biggest electricity distributor, making sure the lights stay on for more than eight million homes and businesses across London, the South East and the East of England. Ensuring over 20 million people stay connected and go about their daily lives uninterrupted. The company invests more than £600 million in its electricity networks every year, offers extra help to vulnerable customers at times of need, and is undertaking trials to ensure that electricity networks support the transition to a low carbon future.
