The Kaleidoscope Plus Group provides mental health service to children, young people and adults on a national basis, along with bespoke mental health, wellbeing and suicide prevention training to individuals and organisations alike.
Established in 1973, the organisation was originally affiliated to the national mental health charity 'Mind', and was known as Sandwell Mind. In 2013 it separated from Mind, recognising that it wanted to focus on more than mental health conditions and to provide a more holistic service.
The organisation recognises that its employees are the key to providing quality services. It aims to ensure that they are paid fairly in comparison to other charities of a similar size and that they are treated equally, included, and feel valued for the contributions they make.
The organisation has a “Practice What You Preach” policy which allows colleagues to take one paid hour off each week to be support their wellbeing.
The Kaleidoscope Plus Group also offers an externally sourced Employee Assistance Programme. This provides employees with 24/7 confidential access to advice and counselling which is independent to the charity.
There are quarterly ‘Wellbeing’ days where all staff can get involved in fun activities and healthy eating advice. The organisation has also introduced quarterly team recharge days where teams can take a day to recharge their batteries. In addition to this, colleagues have access to online yoga, tai chi, and other programmes, as well as the flexible working to enable them to balance work and home life.
This organisation is run on strong values / principles
There is weekly internal email communication from the CEO and an internal newsletter which reinforces organisational clarity and purpose. Organisational performance against agreed KPI’s is shared with colleagues so everyone can see how the charity is performing and training is provided where improvements may be required. Staff are encouraged to provide feedback and ideas.
