The Dispute Service is the longest established supplier of tenancy deposit protection and operates the Tenancy Deposit Scheme (TDS) in England and Wales, providing key services to SafeDeposits Scotland and operating TDS Northern Ireland.
An industry-owned and government-approved tenancy deposit protection scheme for the residential lettings market, TDS is not for profit and doesn't have any shareholders. This means that any surpluses can be ploughed back into the business to improve the service for its members.
TDS supports its members to meet their legal obligations to protect tenancy deposits and allows them to retain control of the deposits so they can better manage the end of tenancy process. TDS's free, high-quality adjudication service can handle tenancies that end in dispute, allowing its members to go about their core business of letting homes.
The organisation's over-riding value is customer excellence. In practice, this covers everything from dealing with queries swiftly, to moving disputes through the system as fast as possible and paying the parties quickly when everything is resolved.
The concepts of teamwork and fairness extend internally, with TDS's executives ensuring staff are treated equitably across the company.
Employees moved seamlessly to homeworking during the pandemic, with small desks, second screens and better laptops provided, where necessary.
Training and fundraising have continued and mental health first aiders are available.

To encourage teamwork and create an understanding of what TDS does, new employees are introduced to the executives and key members of staff. Employees are trained to do other jobs in their department and encouraged to help out in other departments.
I am happy with the balance between my work and home life
Staff have been sent regular gifts through the year, including a Christmas hamper – the perfect accompaniment for the virtual Christmas party. Other events included quiz and bingo evenings. The wellbeing team supports managers with any mental health issues in their teams and counselling is available through an employee assistance programme.
This organisation has a strong social conscience
The TDS Charitable Foundation promotes education in the rights and responsibilities of tenants and landlords. It has awarded grants of £54,725 to five organisations since January 2020 and £808,1000 in total since 2014. The most recent round of funding took into account the effect of the pandemic on the sector.
