Selfie challenges, wanted-item competitions and a weekly company-wide contest culminating in an annual Bonkers Battle put the fun into working at SF Recruitment. Last year, it added to its repertoire of amusements with its SF It’s a Knockout company day.
The company, which has offices in Nottingham, Birmingham and Leicester, was founded in 1998 on the principle that "everyone deserves to work in a job they love". That ethos is still at the heart of everything it does. SF is dedicated to building a team of people with knowledge and experience of the marketplaces they operate in, so that its people and clients fit together naturally.
Two years ago, It reviewed its business model to give everyone a stake in the company. It created the SF Experience to make it a fully flexible, autonomous working environment, where individuals can work in the way that suits them, and introduced a suite of marketing materials to give staff clarity over what SF stands for.
Other measures included bringing in a transparent approach to pay, reward and progression, pledging top-quartile pay for all staff. Every six months the business publishes a report about how employees are paid, how it compares with the market and what reward looks like at every level of the company. It has also introduced quarterly and end-of-year events to recognise and celebrate achievements, including an annual awards ceremony.
The leader of this organisation runs this organisation based on sound moral principles
To encourage a good work-life balance, the leadership team demonstrates that employees' home lives are just as important as work. Leaders bring their children in on company calls, make a point of doing something personal during the day and set the tone by promoting the idea that no one can do it all.
This organisation has a strong social conscience
At SF the environment is high on the agenda. The organisation has ditched single-use plastics in favour of bamboo, a more sustainable material. Plastic water bottles and cutlery is banned, along with straws, bubble wrap and business card boxes. Stricter recycling methods have been brought in at all of its offices.
I am happy with the balance between my work and home life
Staff can decide when they work their contracted hours so they can balance their work and home life more effectively. Greater emphasis has been placed on choosing to work when they are at their most productive. The 30 days’ annual leave entitlement is supplemented by ad-hoc company days off, especially when the workload is high.
