Robin Hood Energy is the first not-for-profit energy company, owned by a local authority. They were set up to tackle fuel poverty and to help give people a cheaper, more helpful alternative to the Big Six. They supply gas and electricity across the whole of the UK, both through their own brand and partnership brands for the domestic and commercial markets. Robin Hood Energy started as an idea just under 10 years ago. Originally it was a Nottingham City Council manifesto commitment to tackle fuel poverty but no-one really knew what that would look like. After a number of iterations, the CEO took the idea of starting their own energy company to the City Council Board and so RHE began. Over the last 4 years it has grown from small beginnings to employing nearly 300 people across 4 different sites. It now has approx. 132,000 customers and an annual turnover of more than £100 million. All 300 of Robin Hood Energy's employees have access to a 24 hour employee assistance service known as PAM assist; the service is staffed by experienced and professional advisors who are there 24 hours a day to answer their call. They have a vulnerability team to help support their most vulnerable customers and this work ethic transfers over to how they treat employees. Robin Hood Energy is like a family and it continually seeks ways to involve employees in everything that it does.
