Staff at global recruitment agency Randstad showed their passion for people by getting involved in the 2.6 national marathon challenge during the first lockdown. UK employees arranged a series of mini events relating to the numbers 2.6 or 26 virtually and from the safety of their homes helped raise £9,000 for their chosen charities.
Randstad has been helping individuals and organisations realise their potential since it was founded in the Netherlands in 1960, and has grown across five continents and 38 markets. In 2019, it helped more than two million people find a meaningful job with 280,000 clients. Having just celebrated its 60th anniversary, the company's ambition and scale shows no signs of slowing with its ultimate goal being to touch the work lives of 500 million people by 2030.
Randstad offers staff transparent career paths and a supportive learning and development culture. It applies its “human forward” approach internally, treating everyone as an individual and caring about their personal circumstances.
The leadership team's commitments to resilient business principles include walking meetings, promoting movement and avoiding “zoom fatigue”, starting meetings with a wellbeing check-in, encouraging remote recognition and “virtual commuting” encouraging everyone to take a walk before and after work.
Teams have been encouraged to host virtual social events from coffee mornings, quizzes and drinks on a Friday to bingo and “climbing” Mount Everest.
Randstad rewards staff year round with spontaneous gift vouchers to show appreciation for a job well done and with end of year celebrations and award ceremonies.
I am happy with the balance between my work and home life
In December Randstad launched a weekly lockdown wellbeing programme which includes managers forums on wellbeing topics and expert speaker sessions on issues such as resilience, stress, bereavement, and financial wellbeing. It also runs peer forums on topics such as working parents and lone workers.
I feel I receive fair pay for the responsibilities I have in my job
Randstad offers attractive salaries and a competitive commission structure for recruitment consultants. For shared service/head office employees, it offers a bonus scheme ranging between 2.5% - 7.5% of total annual salary. Other perks include a medical cash plan, income protection, gym membership discounts, discounted cinema tickets and your birthday off.
This organisation has a strong social conscience
Randstad has banned plastic cups at its head office and has provided all employees with a reusable travel cup to cut down waste. Its printing suppliers are committed to balancing out its environmental impact by planting trees and have planted 1,000 “Randstad” trees last year, reducing the firm's carbon footprint.
