PPL PRS was created to provide a streamlined payment service for all those involved in making music. It collects fees for the UK's two licensing societies and distributes the money to the people who write, perform, compose, record or publish music for public performance.
The Leicester-based company has about 300 'band members', as staff are known, and is continuing to expand the workforce. Social media campaigns have helped to boost local recruitment. There is also a refer-a-friend incentive payment, which increased from £250 to £500 last year.
PPL PRS encourages open conversation with its team through various channels, including monthly conversations with an employee group called 'The Producers'.
In response to comments in employee surveys, it made fresh vegetarian and vegan food available on-site, reinstated a prayer room and rolled out a consistent approach on taking breaks.
