Arsenal FC, Tiffany & Co, Harrods and Samsung are among the big-name clients of Portview, which evolved from a small construction firm that helped to rebuild Belfast after the Troubles, into an innovative, luxury fit-out specialist.

The company traces its roots back to 1975, and now has teams covering the UK and Ireland. Its business strategy is built upon five pillars: prosperity, people, partnerships, process and planet.

It wants staff to thrive and, after listening to them, the company has given them an extra day off a year, reduced the working day by 30 minutes and revamped its Live Better, Feel Better programme to encourage a better work-life balance.

To keep workers engaged and in touch with each other, the Hub, the company's award-winning internal platform, provides a quirky mix of information and fun, including games and quizzes.

Portview's recognition programme, Thumbs Up or a High Five, allows staff to nominate colleagues for everyday contributions as well as exemplary work or effort. Nominations earn points – three for a thumbs up, five for a high five – which are totted up at the end of the year and converted into gift vouchers presented at the annual meeting.

The company has announced plans to invest £2.5m in a new head office, which employees will design and build to create a collaborative, happy and healthy working environment that they feel proud of.

Portview's Live Better, Feel Better programme is led by in-house occupational health nurse, Norma McKibbin, who is a qualified cognitive behavioural therapy practitioner.
