Founded in 2005, Pluss is an award-winning social enterprise which supports thousands of people with disabilities and other disadvantages move into employment each year. Based in Exeter, they deliver a range of national and local programmes on behalf of organisations such as the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), European Social Fund (ESF) and the NHS. They employ 272 people, around half of whom have a disability or long-term condition. Over the past two years, Pluss have regularly held company-wide meetings which have provided employees with the opportunity to have their voices heard and to contribute to the organisation's future planning. The company is led by CEO Steve Hawkins, who regularly travels to Pluss' 16 UK sites to meet and greet the workforce. Along with the rest of his leadership team, he often varies the locations of his meetings to ensure greater visibility within the organisation.

Pluss uses a formal appraisal process to measure the performance of management. They are set to launch a competency framework which has been developed to ensure employees — including managers — are reviewed in line with the required behavioural and performance standards of the organisation.

Pluss holds joint consultative committees which provide staff with an opportunity to feed into company deliberations. They are also seeking to develop a staff forum in the next year which will further amplify the voice of their employees.
