Car retailer Motorpoint is committed to driving the dreams of its 800 staff. Understanding that juggling work and life can be difficult, Motorpoint introduced “one big dream” to give employees time to do things that they wouldn't normally find time for, from picking up their children from school, to learning something new, volunteering for a charity or even just relaxing. Everyone at Motorpoint can take two paid hours a month to do something that either “drives their dreams” or helps their wellbeing.
Since Gary Warren and David Shelton started the business in 1998 with a single site in Derby, it has grown to include 14 sites across the UK and an online sales team working out of a state-of-the-art call centre.
The company, which sells nearly new cars and finance products, set out to do things differently, aiming to create the kind of team spirit you don't find elsewhere in the industry, with a culture based around support. Motorpoint believes in “big celebrations for big wins, real energy and good vibes all the way”.
It shows its appreciation of staff through its mail-drop gifts scheme, when goodies such as doughnuts, popcorn and tea and biscuits arrive as part of business updates or initiative launches. Some mail drops have been delivered as part of team competitions, including doughnut decorating and cake baking to keep employees engaged with the business and each other, and having fun.
