Affordable-home provider Monmouthshire Housing Association manages and maintains 3,900 homes and 290 leasehold properties in Wales. It aims to boost that number by building 100 homes a year to increase its stock to 5,000 within 10 years.
The association was set up in 2008, when it took over housing stock from Monmouthshire County Council. It is managed by a voluntary board and an executive management team. It ensures its homes are improved to meet the Welsh housing quality standard.
MHA's trading subsidiary, Capsel, provides a range of services, including an estate agency. It also carries out maintenance and builds new homes for sale.
In 2020, it won a Constructing Excellence Award for Innovation for its Homes for the Future, which were developed in partnership with the Welsh School of Architecture, at Cardiff University, and funded by the Welsh government’s innovative housing programme. The homes were built by MHA staff.
The association's new property development programme focuses on future-proof, sustainable designs that can be adapted as tenants' lives change. For instance, one-bedroom homes come with the ability to be altered to create a second bedroom, as young families grow. The energy-efficient houses come with a high thermal performance rating.
A variety of career opportunities are offered by the association, ranging from jobs in the housing and trade departments, to accountancy, surveying, marketing and communications.
