KERB is a London-based organisation with a heart for supporting independent food businesses. Founded in 2012 by Petra Barran, a former street food trader, KERB has grown into an international operation with markets in London and a food hall in Berlin, promoting a myriad of culinary delights. KERB is more than a market operator; it's a cheerleader for food entrepreneurship. In 2023, it launched KERB+, a social enterprise that supports individuals to find employment or start their own businesses, focusing on four key areas: Youth Unemployment, Refugees, Homelessness, and re-entry services.
Inclusivity and diversity are at the heart of KERB’s culture, mirroring the vibrant communities it serves. The organisation places a high value on professional development, complemented by a lively work environment and exciting food events. Communication is key to fostering this culture, achieved through regular team meetings, bi-annual company away days, and monthly happiness surveys where team members can share their thoughts and ask questions.
New team members are welcomed with a thorough induction process, including a day working with a trader, to immerse them in the KERB culture. The Senior Management Team maintains a strong presence at KERB, providing updates at monthly meetings and participating in back-to-floor days. They meet every two weeks, offering an open forum for all team members to present ideas. KERB uses an internal communication system and a weekly newsletter to keep everyone informed. Regular catch-ups between team members and their line managers, along with fun socials and initiatives, help keep the team engaged.
