Gearset, one of Cambridge's fastest growing technology start-ups, wants to recruit a more diverse range of people to its workforce. It has expanded its connections with universities and increased the number of remote roles, which has attracted a wider selection of candidates.
To encourage women to apply, the company sponsored a 'Women in STEM' virtual careers fair at which female team members appeared in presentations and talked honestly about what they had learned in their careers in tech.
Another team member featured in JAXenter’s Women in Tech series, run by JAX, an information portal for enterprise technologies. An article on supporting women to work in tech appears on Gearset's blog. A channel on the internal messaging system Slack also offers the chance to discuss topics relating to supporting females in tech.
The company has also provided training in writing job descriptions that don’t put off applicants, making sure to include only what is relevant for the role. It also ensures that candidates meet at least one woman during the interview process.
Founded in 2015, Gearset has rapidly established itself as the leading provider of DevOpps, a tool that delivers software development and IT operations at speed for the Salesforce platform. Salesforce, a customer-relationship management software and application is relied upon by some of the biggest companies in the world.
