London-based digital will-writing service, Farewill, saw a huge spike in will writing amid the Covid-19 pandemic last year with a 267% increase in the number of people writing online and telephone wills in 2020 compared to 2019.
Farewill was founded in 2016 with the aim of changing the way the world deals with death, helping people take control, personally and financially of what matters to them after they're gone.
It has since grown from a team of 25 to one of more than 100 and has expanded its products to include probate, funerals and cremations with the mission of making processes simple, personal, fairly-priced and accessible to everyone.
The company has recently partnered with leading contemporary ceramic artist, John Booth, to launch a limited-edition set of urns. The collaboration, A Colourful Life, aims to open up the conversation about how we can better honour someone's life, their way, moving away from the grim, Victorian approach to death and instead help people to remember their loved ones in a way that reflects who they are.
Farewill's friendly culture nurtures teamwork and is conducive to employees sharing their interests through social channels and activities including Passion Talks on subjects from knitting to running for charity. Staff are encouraged to pitch ideas from changing company policies to launching new products with many proposals taken forward.
This job is good for my own personal growth
Staff get three working days a year to spend on learning and development and last year this was expanded to include volunteering. Farewill also runs remote Friday 5s where people sign up to talk for five minutes about something they have learned that week.
My team is fun to work with
Farewill has sent staff care packages with goodies including desk plants and exotic teas to make working from home a little more fun. A number of non-work social channels have also been introduced on topics from photography and video-games to food and meditation along with film and book clubs.
I am happy with the balance between my work and home life
Farewill has introduced virtual coffee roulettes using an app so team members can have regular coffee meetings with people across the organisation and the Hallway chat app notifies staff to take breaks during the day to encourage water cooler conversations.
