“Our purpose is to make our clients’ lives better,” says wealth management company Equilibrium Financial Planning LLP.
The Cheshire-based business offers financial planning, tax mitigation and investment management, giving its clients the confidence to make better financial decisions.
And it wants its team of around 90 employees to live better too. They’re free to work in a way that suits them best in managing busy jobs and lives.
Staff get a generous leave allowance of 33 days a year to help them recharge their batteries. And after consultation, there’s now no minimum number of days they need to be in the office. The LLP wants their time there to be purposeful, not forced, based on learning opportunities and what support more junior team members and stakeholders may need.
The flexibility means staff are enthused for ‘everyone in the office’ days once a month, which create energy for collaborations and provide opportunities for social events. And feedback from staff has led to the LLP introducing ‘dress for your day,’ giving them the freedom to dress down in the office when they’re not with clients.
There’s a buzz to life at the company. The ‘Spirit Team’ organises fun activities, and the ‘Charity Champions’ work with local charities on initiatives that staff can get involved in, using their three paid-for volunteering days to give back to the community.
And in January, everyone got fired up for the year ahead with an all-team briefing… and firewalk, with most of the team walking across hot coals!
I am happy with the balance between my work and home life
Staff can share how they’re feeling with monthly wellbeing workshops covering topics like mental health and menopause. They also have access to counselling services, massages, yoga sessions and a dedicated wellbeing app. And everyone gets private healthcare after two years. There’s also a ‘helping hand fund’ offering interest-free loans to anyone struggling to fund necessities.
I am paid fairly for the work I do relative to people in similar positions in similar organisations
Based on their feedback, staff now benefit from a revised bonus structure, with the personal performance element, which everyone got, now part of their basic salary. This has allowed for a boost in pension contributions and helps employees with mortgage applications. The bonus is now 100% based on company profit.
This job is good for my own personal growth
The company has reinvigorated its Diploma Academy to tackle a shortage of candidates – particularly paraplanners. The two-year course with a qualification at the end is open to school leavers, graduates and those who want to retrain. All exams and study materials are paid for, and they also get paid time off to study.
