This year is the 10th birthday of the Education and Training Foundation, the London-based charity that is the expert body for professional development and standards in further education and training in England. It supports teachers and leaders to achieve their professional development goals for the benefit of learners and employers.
The foundation works with others to achieve its core charitable purpose of improving education and training for learners aged 14 and over. It believes that the key to doing that is to support teachers, trainers and leaders to excel.
For its staff, the organisation offers hybrid working, with two days a week in its bright, open-plan office with a subsidised on-site gym, a short walk from Victoria station. It makes sure remote workers stay in touch through online meetings and a video-pal scheme, so that they can chat to colleagues.
To help with the cost-of-living crisis, all staff who had passed their probationary period were given a £500 bonus and a 1.5% pay increase. Senior leaders make sure employees know they are there to support them and the wellbeing channel updates everyone on the help that is available. The employee assistance programme provides financial support and the organisation promotes it regularly.
A host of benefits are available and the foundation makes sure its staff have fun too, by running events such as the summer social, when they get together to celebrate achievements and colleagues who exemplify the charity's values in an awards ceremony.
I believe I can make a valuable contribution to the success of this organisation
The foundation makes sure that its values, which include "striving for excellence", "inclusive" and "trustworthy", are visible to all staff and it sets out to articulate a clear vision. Staff away-days and meetings are used to convey that vision and inform employees on how the charity is performing.
The experience I gain from this job is valuable for my future
There is a learning-management system containing training resources to support staff development. Learning hours, which offer bite-sized training sessions, are delivered by internal and external trainers. A dedicated group discusses how learning can be promoted within the organisation and it was responsible for creating learning champions. The foundation also has a leadership development programme.
I am happy with the pay and benefits I receive in this job
Benefits include 30 days' annual holiday, plus compassionate leave, generous maternity and paternity leave and sick pay, as well as time off for moving home or study. It offers a life assurance scheme, season ticket loans and a cycle-to-work scheme. Staff are also given three paid days off a year for voluntary work.
