Children's bicycles were the result of a team-building exercise at medical technology company ConMed, last year. Staff were divided into groups and had to answer general knowledge questions correctly in order to receive the next part they needed to make the bikes. The cycles they built were donated to a refuge run by domestic abuse charity Swindon Women's Aid.
ConMed, which is based in Shrivenham, near Swindon, was set up in 1997 as a producer of arthroscopy and orthopaedic products. It has since gone from strength to strength, adding gastro, pulmonology and leading surgical smoke-evacuation and filter technology to its portfolio. The company has more than 20 design and manufacturing centres worldwide and a turnover of more than £23 million.
Its products, such as electrosurgical generators and pencils and stents, are used in orthopaedic surgery, laparoscopic, robotic and open surgery, gastroenterology and pulmonology, and patient care.
CONMED believes that a diverse and inclusive environment is important if it is to have a talented, motivated and engaged workforce. The organisation ensures that they are inclusive in their advertisements and social media searches, and welcomes and understands the importance of having applicants from diverse and multicultural backgrounds. CONMED wants all employees to feel welcome and comfortable being themselves.
