Cairn Housing Group are a not-for-profit charity whose mission is simple, to make affordable housing more accessible to more people in need of a home of their own. Across Scotland, they provide vital accommodation and landlord services, helping to foster genuine local communities that don't just improve where people live, but how they live too. The organisation started life as the Scottish arm of the Royal British Legion Housing Association, with the primary purpose of housing and care of former armed forces personnel in sheltered housing. Over recent years, Cairn Housing have largely moved away from the provision of housing support and the bulk of their current operational activity is now focused on landlord services and housing support, through partnerships with other associations. A major focus of the organisation is on enabling employees to reach their potential. They have improved the benefits and working conditions for employees by extending flexible working practices to include home working and by removing core hours. They have gradually moved towards a more relaxed working environment and done away with the traditional dress code to introduce a new approach of dressing for your day. Cairn Housing Group have a successful and established employee awards scheme. The employee awards are given to people who have gained special recognition from their colleagues for their commitment to customer service and going beyond the requirements of their roles to help customers and colleagues.

My team is fun to work with
Cairn are committed to ensuring that colleagues achieve a healthy work life balance. To help people achieve this, they recognise that they need to be more flexible as an employer. They have, for some time, had a flexi system where people can build up flexi time to take a day off every flexi period (each flexi period last 4 weeks). However, they have removed core hours allowing people to start and finish each day at a time of their choosing (provided they still work 34.5 hours each week). This means people can work around their other commitments such as doctor appointments and dropping off/picking up their kids from school.
