"A business that's part of a long-term solution to the housing crisis and inequalities in South Wales.” That's the big ambition of Bron Afon Community Housing.
The Cwmbran-based registered social landlord recognises it can only aim high with “a strong, agile workforce”, comprised of colleagues “who feel connected and are supported to do their best.”
And some of that support is recognising that a number of its almost 400-strong team face the same challenges as those in the communities it supports, particularly as the cost of living rises.
There's a 'give and take' pantry free for all to use and to contribute to, including workplace snacks, lunches and grab bags with everything needed to make a healthy meal for the family. The social enterprise offers staff salary advances when finances are particularly tight, and its Employee Assistance Programme provides guidance and signposting on various issues and challenges, including mental health.
In mind of its vision of “being trusted to help build safe and strong communities, where everyone has a place they are proud to call home,” Bron Afon's Helping Working Families Project is working to make a difference. By listening to residents' worries and ideas about what would make life a little easier, the social landlord has introduced initiatives including free holiday activities, cooking sessions and family fun nights.
