Brighter Places, established in 2021, is the result of the merger between United Communities and Solon South West, two entities with a rich history of social housing support in Bristol and neighbouring areas. Today, Brighter Places is Bristol’s largest independent housing association, managing 3,300 homes and serving over 8,100 residents. The organisation values high-quality, community-led housing as key to unlocking social, economic, and health benefits for its communities.
This people-led organisation prioritises employee engagement, embedding it within its People Strategy. Brighter Places aspires to be a great place to work, investing in schemes such as the Brighter Places University programme, traineeships, and learning and development opportunities. This focus on nurturing talent has seen 25% of promotional opportunities and 50% of management roles filled internally.
Brighter Places also supports its staff's wellbeing, offering a Flexi Benefit scheme of up to £700, 30 days annual leave, a 6.16% pension contribution, along with health benefits and development opportunities. Employees also enjoy a flexible work culture, free immunisations and eye tests, a cycle to work scheme, and a supportive environment with mental health first aiders.
This organisation believes in the power of community, collaboration, and trust, fostering an open and supportive working environment where employees can learn and grow. Brighter Places is not just a housing association, but a community that values diversity, equity, dignity, and the freedom to be.
