Already the largest independent firm of chartered accountants in Yorkshire and north Derbyshire, BHP has ambitions to grow further – and welcomes people who want to grow with it.

BHP, founded more than 150 years ago, prides itself on being friendly yet professional, and works hard to ensure all colleagues have a say in the organisation.

The firm provides a full portfolio of advisory, assurance, corporate finance and tax services. Its use of data analytics has helped to produce new ways of working for both BHP and its clients.

Partners are accessible and interested in the people they work with. A thank you letter and gift voucher were sent to all staff members at the end of the year as a celebration of making it through a difficult time. An “Above and Beyond” scheme allows any employee to reward a colleague who has made a special contribution with a gift or voucher.

BHP's measures to reduce its impact on the environment include a cycle-to-work scheme to encourage staff to leave their cars at home. A degree of home-working will continue post-coronavirus to reduce the carbon footprint of those who do commute by car. The firm pays a premium to its cleaning service so that environmentally friendly products are used.

BHP provided online pilates classes for staff working at home. It also introduced a fortnightly mindfulness/meditation session, delivered on Zoom by a wellbeing professional. This was held during work hours, and recorded for use later by staff who could not join in because of other commitments.
