It may be a software company, but AppLearn is always about people – ensuring top-level customer care and creating a welcoming workplace for its employees.
The Manchester-based digital adoption platform (DAP) vendor offers in-app support to make software "super-simple" to adopt, measure and optimise. And AppLearn's people-first approach extends into its internal culture. Its nearly 80 employees are encouraged to speak up, ask for support, recommend training and work together.
The office has been redesigned to create a more social environment, and collaboration is encouraged through cross-departmental working. All employees belong to a 'house', named after leading tech innovators and comprising people from across the business. It encourages staff who wouldn't typically work or socialise together to do so and ensures that challenges and projects benefit from a range of ideas and perspectives – supporting the AppLearn values of 'Make it Happen' and 'All for All'.
The senior leadership team is committed to regularly and consistently communicating with its employees through a structured model of set meetings covering business goals, strategy and general updates. Each department also has a 'daily scrum' feeding into wider weekly meetings and monthly round-ups.
And everyone's salary is reviewed annually to ensure employees are rewarded for their efforts and that the company continues to pay competitive salaries to retain and attract the best staff. It never wants them to feel undervalued or to need to ask for a pay rise.
I am happy with the balance between my work and home life
AppLearn always ensures the team has something to look forward to, from free on-site yoga and HIIT sessions to breakfast and healthy snacks. There's also a lunchtime walking club, regular competitions like monthly step count challenges, and a Tuesday night football team.
