Alexandra Palace, or ‘Ally Pally’ as it is commonly known, is located on a hill overlooking London. It was built in 1873 as the ‘People’s Palace’ to provide entertainment and recreation to the masses, and over 150 year later is delivering on this spirit more than ever before.
Alexandra Palace is run by a charity – the Alexandra Park and Palace Charitable Trust – which has the responsibility for caring for and restoring the 196 acres of parkland and Grade II listed historic Palace, so that they can be enjoyed by all, forever. As part of this mission, the organisation has the vision to become a sustainable home for all that it does.
The Park and Palace welcomes five million visitors each year to experience inspirational culture, world-class entertainment, unique heritage, life-enriching creative and educational opportunities and restorative green space.
Alexandra Palace currently has 100 permanent staff and 200 casual staff. The average length of service is five years and 20% of staff have 10-plus years’ service. Staff are guided by Values: to be collaborative; resourceful; passionate & fun; bold; and open & genuine. The organisation has a corporate goal to Create a Great Place to Work: an inclusive environment where staff are happy are proud to work and feel like they belong. A culture that listens, recognises, and empowers its staff.
The charity recognises the importance of diversity amongst its workforce, is accredited as a Disability Confident Employer and supports staff through a programme of benefits, training and career development opportunities.
