Best Companies Live: The UK's best companies to work for in Q1 revealed

The year has got off to a flying start for those workplaces putting their employees at the heart of everything they do, with the Q1 2023 reveal of the Best Companies to Work For, on Friday 3rd February.

Broadcast live from Salford's Media City and hosted by TV presenter Dan Walker, Best Companies Live Q1 revealed the league tables of the Best Companies to Work For in the UK by region and sector – culminating in the coveted national listings.

The overall top-ranked companies based on their employee engagement scores and size are:

· Small: Claremont Consulting

· Mid-sized: FSP

· Large: Softwire

· Big: J Murphy & Sons

As well as a day of celebration, Best Companies Live Q1 gave employee-first workplaces the opportunity to share valuable insight on what they're doing well and how they're navigating some of today's biggest corporate challenges.

Free-to-view panel discussions on the now-famous red chairs covered topics such as supporting workforces through a deepening cost-of-living crisis, how to listen to employees to build corporate confidence and ways to break down silos and create a vision that unites.

Best Companies' quarterly league tables concept is now in its second year – a move away from the previous annual list. It gives workplaces more flexibility on when to survey their employees. They can do it once or up to four times a year, giving them more opportunities to showcase what makes them great places to work in a competitive recruitment market.

Claremont Consulting topped the Q1 2023 'Best Small Companies To Work For' league table. Mark Baker, Director at Claremont Consulting, spoke to Dan Walker via video link at Best Companies Live: “We are a people business, and people are at the forefront of what we do day-to-day. We help with health, wellbeing, we invest in training and we give people lots of opportunities to progress.”

FSP were crowned 'Best Mid-Sized Company To Work For' in Q1 2023, and also celebrated being the second-highest ranked company of its size for the whole of 2022.

Softwire, ranked number one in the Q1 2023 league table for the 'Best Large Company To Work For', also placed first in the East of England Regional league table. Yemi Olagbaiye, Director, said, “I’m flying with excitement today, this is thirteen years in the making. It’s great to get the recognition and it’s testament to all the hard work we do to make this such a great place for our employees.”

J Murphy & Sons, now celebrating topping the list as the 'Best Big Company To Work For' in Q1 2023, also featured in the overall top 10 for 2022. Group People Director Dawn Moore shared what it meant to their organisation in a conversation with Dan Walker at Best Companies Live: “Despite the challenges, we’ve seen our engagement scores grow year on year, and to have them recognised as outstanding is fantastic.”

For Best Companies' founder and CEO, Jonathan Austin, it's been a solid and encouraging start to 2023:

"There are companies that truly shine in challenging times. They continue to innovate, finding new ways to show their employees how valued they are, as well as keeping them involved in the fundamentals, like shaping the vision and values. These are the companies we're celebrating today. Through Best Companies Live, we're giving them a platform to inspire others and help make the world a better workplace."

The ranking positions on the quarterly League Tables are based on employees' responses to the B-heard survey, which uses Best Companies' unique 8-Factor methodology to produce a BCI (Best Companies Index) score.
