“We want everyone to live successfully in a home they can afford,” is the mission of Jigsaw Homes Group – one of the largest housing associations in England.
The organisation – which brought together New Charter Group and Adactus Housing Group – has over 35,000 low-cost owned and rented homes across the North West and East Midlands.
And it’s not just about the houses themselves; its a team of more than 1,300 staff working to regenerate neighbourhoods, building stronger communities with improved services. Jigsaw Homes Group is also about fostering a workplace community, building connections and supporting and incentivising its employees.
Every year the Group dedicates a week to wellbeing. All staff can claim £50 back towards such things as gym memberships or activity equipment. They can also take advantage of workplace health checks, sports tournaments and other wellness activities, from massages to ceramic painting. Free-to-use gym facilities are also available at various offices all year round.
And the organisation’s taken steps to support its employees through the cost-of-living crisis with two ‘goodwill’ payments, financial advice and budgeting sessions and access to the organisation’s money advisors employed to signpost tenants to support and benefits.
There’s no shortage of opportunities for people to get together at Jigsaw Homes Group, from the annual away day celebrating colleagues who’ve gone the extra mile to Learning at Work Week, where staff run sessions to help others learn a new skill like guitar playing and flower arranging.
I love working for this organisation
New starters get an induction session and ‘welcome box’ related to their new role, including a notepad, gloves, travel mug… and a sweet treat! They also get a buddy to support them while learning their new position. There are also plans for an ‘onboarding’ portal, bringing together helpful documents and FAQs.
This job is good for my own personal growth
The Group promotes internally whenever it can, supporting its people with training to gain the skills and confidence to go for the next level up. There are apprenticeship schemes and a graduate scheme giving individuals experience in the departments they want to work in. And the organisation will fund professional and degree-level qualifications.
This organisation has a strong social conscience
Jigsaw Homes Group aims to be carbon neutral by 2050 through its ‘Be Zero’ sustainability plan. It has a sustainability coordinator who will deliver training to all employees during 2023 on how to be more environmentally responsible, such as through carbon literacy training, so they can channel this into their roles.
