The first Best Companies to Work For in 2022 unveiled as part of new League Tables

The latest instalment of Best Companies’ hallmark event, Best Companies Live, provided a full day of celebration and conversation as the UK workplaces making a place on Best Companies’ new League Tables were unveiled.

The first workplaces named the UK’s ‘Best Companies to Work For’ in 2022 have been unveiled during a live event celebrating the very best in employee engagement.

Broadcast from Media City in Salford, Manchester, on Friday 18th February, the latest instalment of ‘Best Companies Live’ revealed which organisations had achieved an employee engagement score high enough to gain a place on the national, regional, and sector-based League Tables of the Best Companies to Work For in the UK.

Hosted by TV presenter, Dan Walker, the event was streamed live on a specially designed platform and, along with the reveals, featured a full programme of discussion and conversation on subjects including the climate crisis, leadership in a changing world, how to attract and retain talent, and managing the impact of fatigue.

Topping the national League Tables in Quarter One across four different size categories were Hall Brown Family Law (Small), FSP Consulting Services (Mid-Size), Hickory’s Smokehouse (Large), and MBDA (Big).

The winners joined a live Zoom call where they were congratulated by Dan Walker and Best Companies CEO, Jonathan Austin.

“Absolutely Delighted”

Commenting on the achievement of being named the UK’s Best Small Company to Work For in Q1 2022, James Brown Co-Founder and Managing Partner at Hall Brown Family Law, said he was “absolutely delighted” for his team of some of the best family lawyers in the country, many of whom joined him on the call with champagne in hand.

For FSP Consulting Services’ CEO, Simon Gross, “bringing the human element into life” at the firm is one of the reasons he believes it topped the mid-sized list in Q1. Its strong culture of leadership and sharing the core values of the company with all colleagues is what he believes is key to an engaged workforce.

Representing Hickory’s Smokehouse, Head of Operations, Amy Walsh, said she was “so proud of the achievement” of making it as the number one large organisation in Q1 2022. “Everything we do is to constantly drive for better and make our teams happy,” she explained.

Although unable to join live on the day, MBDA, the winner in the big category, was congratulated by Best Companies’ Jonathan Austin, who described them as being “an amazing business with some of the most bright and capable people” within its organisation.

The League Tables

The League Table concept is new for Best Companies, one that offers more flexibility and recognition than the previous annual list.

The new, quarterly League Tables are generated when organisations survey their employees – and it’s their responses, based on Best Companies’ unique 8 Factor methodology – that determines how engaged their people are. This produces an index score used to rank positions on the League Tables.

Commenting on the day, Best Companies Founder and Chief Executive, Jonathan Austin, said: “This event has been so important - not least in recognising the fantastic achievement of all of the organisations making a place on our Q1 League Table, but also in hosting the conversation around some of the most topical issues in the workplace.”
